December 15, 2003: The lost and found operation continues to generate public attention for its outstanding work. Click here to read an article that appeared in the Sandy Hill Image. April 7, 2003: The extraordinary story of the Heartwood House/OC Transpo Lost & Found partnership is starting to get out. The front page story on the City section of the Ottawa Citizen should help! Opening act Riverbend entertained a packed house of over 800 guests at the Centrepointe Theatre, and put everyone in the mood for headliners the Barra MacNeils. By the end of the two hour set the crowd was on its feet, stamping their shoes, clapping, and singing. The smiling faces exiting the building told the story: a great time had by all. This St. Patrick's Day Celtic Concert was the first major collaborative fundraiser for the 15 groups of Heartwood House, and the net proceeds of over $7000 showed that a lot of hard work can help make up for a non-existent promotional budget. Thanks to everyone who helped out and to all those who purchased tickets and enjoyed the show. March 6, 2003: It was a great day. That sums of the sentiment of all those in attendance for the Heartwood House second anniversary celebrations. It started as early as 5:30 a.m. when the trucks arrived from The New RO television, for a remote broadcast of four live segments originating from the House. This included features of the Lost & Found operation, the HeARTwood Gallery, the new Against The Grain woodworking initiative, and Cooperative 301. Starting at 5:00 p.m. visitors had a one-stop information shopping opportunity in the Heartwood cafeteria, as all the groups took part in providing people and displays to inform the public. At this time the gallery launched a new show. At 6:15 the Against The Grain workshop launched operations with a grand opening celebration, thanking some nine different partners with plaques created on the premises. Afterwards, all those in the House made their way to the cafeteria as Community Coordinator Maureen Moloughney paid tribute to the many partners that have made 100% occupancy and the renovation of the cafeteria itself a possibility. The second anniversary celebrations conclude with the Barra MacNeils St. Patrick's Day benefit at Centrepointe Theatre on Monday night. January 29, 2003: As reported in today's Ottawa Citizen, the Ontario Trillium Foundation has awarded Heartwood House a grant of $190,000 over a period of three years. The announcement comes at a time when Heartwood House is dealing with the challenge of a rising lease rate, while major fundraising initiatives are in their infancy. The grant ensures the financial stability of Heartwood House and provides the time that is needed for all member organizations to work together in developing an effective long-term funding plan. January 15, 2003: It's full steam ahead for second anniversary celebrations! Thursday, March 6th, is the date for an exciting Open House event, which will feature a new show at the gallery, the launch of the Against The Grain woodworking shop, and informative displays from all 15 member organizations in the cafeteria. The celebrations continue with the first annual St. Patrick's Day Celtic Concert featuring the Barra MacNeils and the Riverbend Trio at Centrepointe Theatre. The concert starts at 7:30pm on Monday, March 17.
