Christmas Luncheon

The Christmas pot-luck luncheon was moved to the gallery from CCM as most Member group participants could not get to the House due to the bus strike. But Heartwooders still turned out in large numbers for the annual event, to enjoy the tasty treats and exercise their vocals during the Christmas caroling.  Many thanks to all members for your food contributions and your marvelous voices!

There's no doubt that the success of Heartwood House is thanks to the kindness of countless volunteers who have given their time to help us along the way. Thanks to the kindness of Sean Cannon, Kyle Conlin, Marc Faye-Biron, Kelly Marceau, Darien Mianscum, Eric Picard, Michael Rolfe, Corey Taillon and teachers Carol Mongeon, James Price, Brad Armishaw and Fran Childs from D'Arcy McGee High School a variety of important cleaning jobs including the cleaning of the grounds around the House were done on Thrusday November 13th.  The students and teachers did a fantastic job and we are very grateful to them for their time.

NOVEMBER 1, 2008 - OC Transpo Unclaimed Items Sale

It was a beautiful day in the neighbourhood and a grand day for the annual fall OC Transpo Unclaimed Items Sale.  Bargain shoppers were out in full force again to snap up the amazing deals.  Shoppers purchased leather and suede jackets, winterwear, fabulous bikes, digital cameras, MP3 players, watches and even a sword left behind by busy customers on the OCT buses.  $3,230 was raised in just two hours. This is an amazing result when you consider that the majority of items were sold from 25 cents to $5!

OCTOBER 7, 2008 - Heartwood Annual General Meeting

REPORT FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Executive Director Maureen Moloughney presented the annual report with discussion and analysis of a variety of Heartwood interests and topics. Included among the highlights was the record of more than 38,000 registered visitors to Heartwood House in 2007-2008. This statistic does not capture visits that are not recorded in the visitor log, such as Capital City Mission and Aphasia Centre of Ottawa clients.

Deloitte Volunteers

Many thanks to the volunteers from Deloitte who gave the gift of their time and talents to paint, garden, build shelves and various other House improvement projects on Friday September 5, 2008.  The Deloitte Impact Day is a firm-wide day of volunteer service where the people of Deloitte dedicate their time to proactively make a difference in the community. Heartwood is very grateful for the fantastic work done by these volunteers and we look forward to next year's Impact Day with anticipation!

MAY 30, 2008  - Heartwood Arts Series

The Heartwood Arts Series' 2008 Series wraps up, with Terry Tufts

It was the last event of this season, and it could not have wrapped up in a more delightful way. Terry Tufts, a singer-songwriter, accomplished guitarist and storyteller, treated us to songs and guitar selections that had everyone mesmerized. From socially conscious lyrics, to fun stories about growing up in Southern Ontario, Terry's songs and stories made the evening go by far too quickly.

Have a listen and a look here...  (real audio or windows media ) ... and plan on joining us for next Season's events!

MAY 3, 2008 - OC Transpo

OC Transpo Lost & Found's Unclaimed Items Sale of Spring 2008... a great success!

The halls were teeming with people who came in from a chilly day, and there is no doubt that these many people left with far more than the items they carried in their arms. They left with more than a great bargain, too. They left with a smile and a warmth and a little bit more heart than when they came in. And that is what Heartwood is all about.

Please check out what metronews|Ottawa and The Ottawa Sun (part 1 & part 2 )had to say!
CTV news was also interested in our sale... watch here !

APRIL 18, 2008 - Heartwood Arts Series

The Ottawa Storytellers entranced us with stories galore...

Once again, Heartwood House - the heARTwood Gallery to be precise -  was transformed into a wonderful, intimate performance space, as Mary Wiggin and Gail Anglin told stories that kept an audience of many listening folks captive for an evening of storytelling. Wiggin, a Heartwooder herself, and Anglin both delivered a collection of stories that teetered delightfully between reality and fantasy fiction. It was an evening that won't be forgotten soon.

APRIL 12, 2008 - everybody wins!

everybody wins! holds its first special, on-site Saturday Drop-Off...

It was a rainy day, but that did not deter people from the Ottawa community from doing the right thing, when it came to getting rid of some electronics, back in April. The everybody wins! electronics recycling fundraising program is ongoing, and there is no doubt of its success. But, the 5,500lbs of electronics collected on the 12th, was a great Spring cleaning of used computer stuff. "Everybody truly does win!"

FEBRUARY 22, 2008 - Heartwood Arts Series
