Heartwood was alive with creativity today thanks to retired English Teacher Terry Ann Carter who hosted a Literacy/Poetry workshop for 12 Heartwood participants for several member groups. Ms. Carter and 37 other poets from across the country are hosting a variety of events to celebrate poetry and literacy. The event is in its fourth year. Many thanks to Ms. Carter for helping us to find the "poet" within! White How do simple things get so complicated? (Have I told you, today, I love you?) to that calm white on white the loneliness of moonlight, when you are not here. September 26, 2007
Heartwood Annual General Meeting 2007Our corporate members participated in a lively discussion with the Heartwood board of directors about long term planning at this year's AGM. We look forward to continued discussions with the Heartwood board and our Member Groups in the coming weeks and months about our continued planning for Heartwood's successful future as a model of community development. Dedication of the Heartwood Memorial Garden Sadly in July and August 2006 Mike Ward and Lawrence Freedman passed away. They were valued members of our Heartwood Community whose contributions were so significant that we decided to dedicate our Heartwood garden to their memory. Mike and Lawrence taught us to remember our mission in everything we do. The memorial ceremony also included the dedication of two benches to the memory of Mike and Lawrence with special plaques that were attached to the benches with their names. We thank Lawrence's family and Mike's good friends for attending the dedication ceremony. It was a beautiful celebration of the memory of two remarkable Heartwooders! Slide show April 28, 2007
The Unclaimed Items Sale Held on Saturday April 28th, 2007, the sale was a wonderful success. In just two hours $2,783.05, was raised for our Heartwood community! The sale was a smooth operation thanks to the efforts of over 40 volunteers who gave their time to support this fundraising event. Many thanks to Jeremy McConnell from MBNA for arranging the kind donation of new t-shirts, sweatshirts, baseball hats and beauty kits that MBNA had left over from various community events it supports. The gallery was transformed into the "loonie" room where these items were sold and the bargain shoppers took great advantage of the "steal deals." A huge thank you to our Heartwood volunteers. Heartwood is very blessed to have so many wonderful people, who are the number one reason why Community Works and why we are "better together!"

CBC's (All In A Day) Adrian Harewood speaks with Nicole Colbeck of Heartwood House's everybody wins! Computer Recycling ProgramJust a few days after Nicole joined the Heartwood team as Marketing Coordinator of the everybody wins! fundraising initiative, CBC's interest in the Glebe EnviroFair 2007 brought Heartwood House to their attention. A request for information about the fair and specifically about the issue of e-waste management and its place in our community, resulted in an interview with Adrian Harewood .
Discussing everything from how Heartwood's efforts with ew! represent financial support for its member groups, to the urgent and significant need for increased attention to the health and environmental issues surrounding safe e-waste management, the interview was one of this programme's most effective few minutes of public awareness raising. Nicole and the amazing front desk staff at Heartwood House continue to receive phone inquiries as a result of this interview. Thanks, CBC! February 1, 2007Heartwood House News
