This is like an enormous garage sale that winds its way all through the building. In addition to raising funds to support operations of the Heartwood House charitable organization, the sale also builds community spirit for Heartwood members who volunteer at the sale, and the event increases awareness of Heartwood House in the community at large. The media exposure for this particular sale was incredible. The Ottawa Citizen gave us front page coverage which included a great picture of Mike, Angela and Amanda from the Heartwood reception staff. Chris (People, Words and Change), Sue (Heartwood House volunteer) and Margaret (Lowertown Community Resource Centre) were featured in a CBC television interview about the sale and Heartwood Hhouse. A Carleton University journalist and a journalist from Epoch Times, a newspaper for the Chinese community visited us on Saturday. A CBC Television camera technician took footage of the sale in action and, the Ottawa Sun had a picture of volunteer Mike and others in their Sunday paper. It was an awesome day and some of it was captured on film. Click here for a movie slide show! October 27, 2006The front page of the Ottawa Citizen featured a story about the OC Transpo Lost & Found operation at Heartwood House. Click here to read the online version of the newspaper article. The piece also touched on the visit made by a huge contingent of Ontario Trillium Foundation representatives on October 25th. They came to find out what Heartwood is doing right, and to tour the building and speak to the many Heartwood House member organizations that have benefited from Trillium funding. They say that many hands make light work and this certainly was the case for today's OC Transpo Lost and Found Unclaimed Items sale. Thirty-eight member group volunteers donated their time to making the sale a success. Chris and Norm coordinated the effort and did an amazing job of ensuring that is all ran smoothly. It was a warm and sunny day, which traditionally has not made for the strongest possible attendance, but the sale results were still excellent with a total of more than $3,000.00 raised! The next sale is Saturday, October 28th, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. February 1, 2006
