Check out what folks are saying about Heartwood House!

everybody wins! Electronics Recycling Program

Our unique community includes:

The HeARTwood Gallery. Artists gain access to much needed quality exhibition space, and they in return support and enhance Heartwood programs and the work environment. In addition to exhibiting their work in the Gallery, artists may find opportunities to partner with individual member groups, offering workshops or one-to-one art instruction. The ongoing collaboration between artists and the Heartwood House
community demonstrates the benefits of art as an integral part of our daily lives. The Gallery serves a dual purpose at Heartwood House. The room is popular as a meeting room for member organizations and outside groups. Therefore, the Gallery space is less suitable for installation work than it is for work to be displayed on the walls.

OC Transpo Lost & Found - Many of our member organizations were looking for authentic opportunities for their clients to develop literacy, social, and employment skills in a supportive environment. From this basic need emerged a valuable partnership with the City of Ottawa in 2001 that has provided Heartwood House the opportunity to be fully responsible for the management of the OC Transpo Lost and Found
Program. Thirty thousand lost items are received each year.

Everybody Wins Electronics Recycling Program
- Heartwood House collects unwanted computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, scanners, electronic games, cell phones, microwaves, televisions etc. In partnership with RD Long Computers, an electronics salvage
company, we are authorized collectors of the Electronics Stewardship of Ontario Program. The compensation Heartwood receives from the collection of these unwanted units is used to support of the vital work of our community of non-profit charitable organizations. The Everybody
Wins program is a fantastic way to ensure that unwanted electronic waste does not end up in the landfill and at the same time assist Heartwood to be a self-sustaining community.
